So happy you are doing this for your Mom. I can't wait to see the joy on her face. Tom and I will be there with our dancing shoes on!!!. Give that little guy, Patrick, a big hug from me.
Let me know if there is something I can help you with for the party.

I remember when I was starting Readiness I was so nervous and Auntie Ellen let me come to her class for the day! All her students were calling her Mrs. Dionne and I was so confused, because I only knew her as Auntie Ellen! I can't wait for the party, she deserves a great time!

Okay,

So it's June 5th and I am just discovering this blog...

Ellen has been one of the most precious gifts in my life for the last 20+ years. As the pesky school librarian who could just drop in unannounced at any moment in the day, I've had the privilege of spending probably as much time in her classroom as anyone (including some of her students thanks to pull-outs!) What I had the privilege to observe over those years was one of the most masterful teachers I have ever known. She inspires learning through her own enthusiasm for learning. She fosters responsibility by setting responsible expectations. She teaches respect by giving it to her students. Gradually, out of respect for her teaching mastery grew a deep and lasting friendship.

For the past several years we have celebrated our birthdays together--our joint 50th surprise party thrown by the Thorntons Ferry staff and all those over the past ten years have provided wonderful memories, photos, and souvenirs for my "nursing home box."

We planned to retire together. I screwed up and left Thorntons and didn't keep my end of the bargain. But Bob and I will be there to honor her career and the fact that she is still older than either of us :-)

I can't wait to see her face!

For as much as I love Ellen, the Dionne family keeps making me more proud to be associated with all of you.

It was a wonderful evening and just to watch Ellen's face during the night and to listen to her on the way home, I know she couldn't have asked for a better time.

Thank you all,
John

I am glad she was surprised. So very special for her.She has worked hard and deserves all the wonderful moments you gave her. Thank you for having me be a part of her night.
